When the Internet boom was on, millions of dollars were spent on the hopes that being in the promise land of the Internet would somehow translate to big sales. I myself worked for a company that made Internet software that 'everyone needed'. It was software designed to keep images from being printed, copied or screen captured out of a web browser. It later evolved into a piece of software that protected both images and text. It was pretty slick, but as much as we convinced our board that people needed it, it just never sold.

We found out the hard way, that the Internet doesn't work that way. In the offline world, you have to advertise and beat the pavement for sales. The Internet is a different animal. It's like a super highway for travelers who shop at night, who want to go to the stores with their lights on. The stores with their lights off don't get sales.

Unfortunately you can't just just flip a switch (like we thought in 2000) and attract buyers. In order for you to get your store lights on, you need marketing.

Search engine marketing involves many things. Since each company's needs are different, the answers can very.
