Google maps with turn by turn directions to your place from any smart phone
Visit www.stornmore.com/mobile-map.html and select the location button with your smart phone, or regular web browser if you wish. That will give you turn by turn directions to a storage facility in Florida. Pretty slick. It’s written in PHP and basic HTML Now anyone can find you with a simple push of a button.
The coming stock market crash
I watched Mike Maloney’s 1.5hr presentation on the economy, stocks and where money is headed. He mentioned the pattern of stock market crashes but he didn’t finish his line of thought, so I went and did my own research. Turns out, the stock market crashes of 1929 & 2000 were double-dips spread out over 3 years, the second dip being twice as harsh as the first. Why is this interesting? We are now just passing the 3 year point of the crash of 2008 and if the patterns hold up, the stock market will crash to near zero. There are tremendous efforts going on by the Fed to delay this crash as long as possible. Without low interest rates, the US printing more money and all their bailouts, this second crash would have happened by now. Unfortunately Ben Bernanke is running out of tricks and the inevitable is just around the corner.
Crash of 1929:
Stock market loss of 48% followed by a loss of 90% 3 years later.
Crash of 2000:
Stock market loss of 38% followed by a loss of 78% in 2003.
Crash of 2008:
Stock market loss of 59% followed by a loss of XX in 2012?
Notice that the second loss is 2x what the first one was in the first two crashes. That makes for a 100% loss in the stock market PENDING.
In 2000-2003, I lost 50% or more of my 401k value. It took 10 years to get back what was in it. If you have a 401k or any kind of stocks, you should consider making some changes while you still have time. To short the market check out symbol DOG. Some people are closing out their 401ks, paying their taxes and keeping their money away from investors. Considering the MF Global scandal, where they lost their customers money because they were illegally using it as collateral on their loans, and the potential crash, you can see why people are running away from investment firms.
Beware of people selling you SEO services
In 2012, I’ve decided I must blog about SEO services more. Let’s face it, it’s not great advertising for me to provide outstanding results for clients only to have my own website in such poor condition. So I’ll be starting with adding more blogs and then move into worrying about ranking it later. Content is king you know.
I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve lost business to someone who swears they know something about SEO and can provide the ‘same thing’ cheaper. For example, a potential client, we’ll call him Roger, (mostly because I can’t remember his name) talked himself out of using me because his graphics guy ‘knows SEO’ and will provide it for substantially less. After his SEO work was complete, I went to his site to check the quality. It turns out that all he provided was keywords stuffed in the popular and painfully obvious areas. There were no keyword phrases in those areas nor could I find them any place else. That site will never compete and draw traffic with his competitors if he leaves it as-is.
Another client, used the services of a programmer, whom he swore was a genius. Long story short, same results.
In each case, the client got what they paid for. They’ll come back to me eventually, and they’ll have lost a year or so time and a few hundred dollars.
